Binge TV Watching & The Writing Process

Does anyone else find it difficult to concentrate on writing when there are so many good shows on television right now?

Okay, I *may* be referring to The Walking Dead, and yes I am a huge fan of both the show and the comics. I actually found the comics about two years before the show aired and got my husband (who is a zombie-anything fan) into them for a while. Then BAM we found out about 1/2 way into the first season that it was on tv, then we had to wait for it to come out on dvd before we could watch it. But I digress.

As far as writing goes, I'm a night-owl so I write more at night than any other time of day. Especially on the weekend when I have both of my kids at home during the day.

Speaking of media...what's everyone listening to? Of course I speak to the invisible people that read this blog as of yet, but I'll just go ahead and answer my own question. I've been really into Hozier & Echosmith lately. I'm a bit behind on what's on the radio since I never listen to it, so when I do tune in I'm usually somewhat late on what's 'cool' at the moment. Oh well!

Root Canals & Writing

Okay, so as everyone knows (even those who've never experienced it)- root canals suck. There's a reason for the famous euphemism "I'd rather have a root canal done."

I know this because I just recently had one done, so I'm just FULL of opinions on them at the moment. I won't bore you with the details and the whining I'd truly like to do, but let's just say it was more than what I bargained for.

For starters, I have learned two very important things about my mouth that I could've probably guess...but I'm glad I have an official-dicial account of this: I have a small mouth and a big tongue. :cue oral sex jokes:
As charming as that sounds, is makes dental work a lot harder, frankly. My jaw was sore for a whole week from having to hold my mouth open as wide as I could get it for an hour and a half. Doesn't sound so bad? You try and hinge your mouth open like a damn snake and hold it for five minutes, then get back to me.

I could honestly go on about this but I'll leave it here- after realizing there was additional infection in the tooth, they had to SHAVE down my BONE. Which involves slicing my gum open to get to it. And that requires stitches after it's all said and done...did I mention I had to be given the local anesthetic five times?? There was no sedation of any sort. In face you were wondering what it sounds like to have your bone shaved down, well...I won't give you those type of nightmares because I like you too much. Lucky you!

Anyway, after all is said and done, I'm feeling better this morning. I figured after the last treatment a week ago that it would end in more misery, but quite honestly I'm feeling okay. I'm also on pain killers this time so that *might* have something to do with it.

Back to writing which is why you are probably here!
Writing will be done tomorrow so that I can have an extra day to shake off the dental treatment funkies. Expect Georgiana's Place to be published by Halloween!! That feisty redhead is just dying to introduce herself to everyone ;)

Enjoy your Thursday, y'all!

Personal Preferences & Labels

You know...when I was a kid I never really thought about labels much. Everyone was judged by how nice they seemed to me. And also who had the best lunches and/or lunchboxes. If you had the pizza lunchable (which was BRAND-SPANKING NEW back then) and sported some really cool plastic lunchbox then you had it made in the elementary shade, my friend. I bugged my parents enough to buy me a super cool Power Rangers lunchbox to replace the boring plain-jane fabric one I had. And yes, it had the matching thermos.

Nowadays things are different. Of course it's not really such a change with the times as it was me growing up.

There are plenty of ways I've been labeled over the years. One of the main ways was by my natural red hair. Redheaded Step-child. Ginger. Strawberry Shortcake. Yep, I've heard a lot of them (and I don't even have super red hair.)

Well folks, it's time to take matters into my own hands and label myself. Once I get enough money to put towards it...I am coloring my hair. Something I've never actually done except maybe twice with at-home kits. I'm doing this the real legit way, ya'll! Stay tuned to find out what color(s?) I chose!

Let's Talk Snacks

That's right...snacks. Specifically writing snacks.

I know the whole stereotype of the writer slaving away at the computer (or paper...or typewriter), mug of coffee or tea in hand, snacks strewn all around his or her workspace.

Is this a legit thing? I ask because of how my writing routine usually goes. Starting off with a tall glass of ice cold water is necessary at least to me, but past that I just don't do the writing/snacking thing. When I have in the past, I found that I was way too distracted by said tastiness to focus completely on my writing. Since I like to consider myself a hard-working writer it's hard to purposefully indulge on something that will take precious time away from my writing.

I can't be the only one...right? Just a thought I've had in my head, is all. Back to finishing finals week!

Oh, The Joys of Being a College Student

Yes, I must admit...there aren't many of them.

I started college (again) last May, with the most enthusiastic outlook possible. I wanted a degree. I wanted to be the next in line in my family to graduate from college. I wanted to matter.

Now most of that is the same, but I feel like I am really struggling at the half way point.
There are a lot of things going on in my personal life, not to mention trying to get my writing career up and running...so sometimes school has to take a back seat to those things. Like right now...I'm getting ready to take a two month break from school so that I may focus more on my writing and family. I feel like I deserve it after going to school non-stop for a year and a half, don't you??

Any way, here's to the future, being uncertain as it may.

Procratinators Unite! Tomorrow...

Okay, so I will admit that I am a huge procrastinator. It's excessive in some areas of my life, and yet I haven't felt completely compelled enough to do much more than recognize this and shrug.

However, when it comes to my writing I am a totally different person it seems. I have my deadlines. I have my rules and my space and my music and EVERYTHING NEEDS TO GET DONE ON TIME. I'm wondering if there is a way to make myself like this about other things like I don't know...washing the dishes. Cleaning the bathroom. Or hey...just cleaning in general?

If anyone has suggestions, I am all ears. Until then...happy trails!

Another day, some more words

I will say that I am completely stoked to be {this} close to publishing "Georgiana's Place." But I swear that's not all I want to focus on.

Believe it or not, I have TEN different ideas lined up for the next projects I'm working on. That's just in the erotic romance genre! I have a pen name that I use for writing YA (young adult) and that is something that I will be working studiously on during my break from school starting in a couple of weeks. College + Writing = stress, just in case you were curious! I digress.

Does anyone else wish there were an extra three hours in a day JUST so they could read more? In the movie "About Time" (which I highly recommend), a man is able to time travel just like every other male in his family. He can only go back in time to places he has already been, but gets to relive those moment. His father tells him the secret, and explains that what he did a lot of times with that special power is that he went back and read books as much as he could.

So imagine you are able to do this too...You just finished a book that you were not too keen on after all. Just go back, pick a different book to read instead of 'wasting' the time reading the crappy book! Of course you retain all memory, even when you go back in time. So theoretically, you could go back every time you finished a book, and then turn around and pick a different book to read in that time period, all while still having read the first book! Confusing? Maybe, but I swear the movie explains it much better.

Well, I'm off to bed. Here's to another short sleep and long day ahead! Good night!

Only a few more days...

I'm so close to the infamous precipice where I throw myself (and life) over the edge- just because I can. Only a few more days until I publish Georgiana's Place!
Something was holding me back from even trying to go anywhere with my writing, but I am finally where I need to be. In front of the keyboard.

More details coming up about the book, as well as future books that will be coming out soon as well. Stay tuned!

Writing is...something that takes a lot of patience. You have to be able to pump yourself up, let yourself go, then turn right around and punish yourself before you ever get anywhere.

Writing erotic romance though, it's just fun! I love to explore my own thoughts on the subject of sex and all things related through my writing. What do you think?
